Join me for a visit to the Petrohué Falls located in Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park near Puerto Varas in southern Chile. As we travel the trails, we encounter the mesmerizing color and pounding rhythm of the falls. Step close enough to the trail’s edge and you may feel the gentle mists from the falls land on your cheeks. If we’re lucky, we might even see a Torrent duck riding the waves with her chicks.
This is a world shaped by the lava flow of volcanoes. The Osorno Volcano is not far. She gave this world the dark basaltic stone from which the green flora around us bursts into life. Do not fear the volcano, though. All is quiet today, apart from the sound of the falls splashing into the water below it and the comforting churrs of the rust-colored chucao tapaculo bird. Today, the mountains, the trees, and the waters envelop us in wisdom and friendship. Let your eyes rest on the waters and release your troubles there.
