This post is not sponsored. I just love supporting my local fashion designers. It’s no secret I admire the talent of the small-batch fashion designers I find at Sassafras in Seattle. This week, I’m excited to swing the spotlight to KFLY, a brand known for its inclusive, reversible dress designs. Katy, pictured below in her …
Upcycled from Napkins to Polkadot Top
Over the last few months, Mel from Bag and a Beret loaned me her farking hat to upcycle old linens into fun things I can wear. First, there were the paper-bag waist pants made from old sheets. Then, there were the Pottery Barn napkin shorts. Now I present the cousin to those shorts–a top upcycled …
Paper Bag Waist Breaks the Rules with a Zen-like Glee
There is something about a paper bag waist that intrigues me. Maybe it’s because it’s a rule-breaker. To create a paper bag waist, I scrunch a bunch of fabric around the smallest part of my waist and cinch it there with a belt. It creates bulk in a place I usually try to make look smaller. At least I made fewer mistakes on this project than in the past! And I got to use a hammer to secure the bib closures. What’s not to love about that? 🧵🧵
Transported in Reversible KFLY Dress
Cue up the Out of Africa soundtrack. We’re going on a safari. I don’t remember much about the plot of Out of Africa but I remember everything about how the costumes and the music made me feel. The tailored elegance and exquisite fashion filled my artistic soul. It etched in me a desire to dress just like Meryl Streep’s …
Books, Art, and Slow Fashion
Have I ever told you about the tendency I have when I read good books? I get lost in them and can’t shut up about them because they take up so much space in my brain. I get this trait, among many, from my dad. Six years ago or so I dedicated my reading to …
Keeping My Cool in Laura Tanzer Dresses
When it comes to staying cool and comfortable, the last several summers have been somewhat miserable for me. When I was younger, I froze year round. Not anymore. Now I’m hot more often than cold. My inner thermostat detects 65°F/18°C and begins the meltdown process almost immediately. When I wear long pants and leather sneakers …
