One of my favorite places in Seattle is Freeway Park. It’s a park built on top of Interstate 5, which cuts through downtown Seattle. Cool nook-y architecture, a big fountain, and twinkly lights at night all contribute to this unusual, fantastic place. You’d never know there was a highway underneath. 🛣 🌳 #freewaypark @freewayparkseattle

A park on top of a highway: what a clever idea! Mind you, part of the sculpture park we often visit is built on top of a tunnel … xxx
I think it’s such a genius way to use the space. It sounds like your tunnel and the sculpture park over it are the same idea! This particular park is a tunnel for the drivers below. The tunnel/park heals the “cut” of an ugly highway through the city. This particular highway literally cuts through the heart of Seattle. It separates downtown from the eastern neighborhoods. There is talk now–and support is gaining steam everyday–of lidding the entire length of the highway through the downtown area so we can have more enjoyable spaces like this park, as well as more land for housing, which is a premium here. As you might guess, I am a huge fan of the idea. 🙂
I hope the weather has warmed up a bit by you, Ann! If not, know I’m doing my best to send you some of our sunshine.
Hugs!
Very unique concept! I love your sweet Seattle sites!
Thank you, Jude! You already know how much I love my little city, too. 💕
